about Mary Moss

Since her election in 2009, Mary Moss has provided leadership resulting in significant improvements to the city's community and economic development, roads, sidewalks and parks. In addition, she has supported partnerships and organizations addressing issues such as homelessness, mental health needs and safety. Mary, a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, understands family needs. If elected, she will will work closely with her constituents and fellow council members to continue building a vibrant community for all of Lakewood's neighborhoods.

Education: AA, Tacoma Community College, BA, Evergreen State College, MA, Chapman University

Occupation: Mary served 36 years in finance and community relations with Harborstone Credit Union (Ret. 2013).

Honors and Awards: Lifetime Achievement Award, Pierce County Chapter of Credit Unions; Thomas Bradley Distinguished Citizen Award, Alpha Kappa Psi Leadership Training Fraternity; Selected by the Business Examiner as a "Woman of Influence".

Councilmember Mary Moss was elected to Position 1 on the Lakewood City Council in November 2009. She is a native of Virginia and moved to Washington State as a military dependent. She graduated from The Evergreen State College with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and received her Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University.

Councilmember Moss earned recognition in her role as community development consultant for Harborstone Credit Union, from which she recently retired after 36 years. She received the Pierce County Chapter of Credit Unions’ Lifetime Achievement Award and was chosen as a Woman of Influence by the Business Examiner. She also recently received the Thomas Bradley Distinguished Citizen award for her work in the community. In addition, Governor Jay Inslee re-appointed her to the Clover Park Technical College Board of Trustees through the end of 2018.

Councilmember Moss currently serves on numerous boards and committees: Trustee, Clover Park Technical College; Chair, Workforce Advisory Board, Pierce College; Secretary, Washington State Association of College Trustees; Liaison, Lakewood Promise Board; Member, Sound Transit Board; Secretary, State Air Force Association; Honorary Commander 62nd Operations Group, JBLM; and Member, Lakewood Rotary.  In addition, she serves as the council liaison to Lakewood’s Promise.

She is mother of four and proud grandmother and great grandmother.
